Make a fashion accessory, with very little knowledge of crochet.  You can make this  item with just knowing how to chain stitch, and double crochet.  This pattern can be purchased in my Pattern shop, which is aimed at beginner crocheters!  Any color of your choice!  Wrap it around the neck on cold winter days, or wear it loosely around the shoulders as shown in this photo!  Add a ribbon, or a torn strip of fabric, and it's finished!

This shrug/jacket may look complicated to make, but it is actually very easy.  This pattern includes instructions so that you can make it any size.  The process is very simple, and all my patterns are aimed at beginners.  One young lady purchased the pattern, made this shrug for her grandma, and at the time of her emailing me, her grandma had not taken it off since!!  Good to hear!  Make it lots of different colors, and even making it in multicolors will add to it's allure!

CROCHET TIPS, MAKE A SHAWL PIN, OR A HAIR STICK

Crochet shawls, and scarves look lovely with an added shawl pin.

You can make an easy shawl pin, with just a dowel, and a few beads.  If you have access to a drill, you can drill a hole, but if not, you could tighten the wire around the dowel to make it good and secure, the attach another section of wire with beads added to it.  Check out the youtube video on how to do that.  The link is below the photo.

HOW TO CROCHET A BEGINNER SCARF

It's always nice to be able to make scarves and accessories for yourself, or to give to friends and family as gifts.  A beginner scarf can be crocheted, using only the chain stitch, and the double crochet stitch.  Choose some yarn colors that you like, get out a crochet hook, and off you go!  In no time at all, you will have your very own creation.  Impress your friends with your crochet skills, and make a bunch of them!

HOW TO CROCHET, LEARN TO MAKE A BEGINNER SHRUG

After practising how to make a chain stitch, and double crochet, you will be ready to make an easy summer shrug.  Shrugs are easier to make than most people think.  It's really like making a long scarf, and then connecting the two ends to make them into sleeves.  What an easy way to make a summer accessory for when you need just that little something as a cover-up. 

This shrug requires only a foundation chain, and then rows and rows of double crochet stitches.  A great free crochet pattern so you can whip up some of these in any size imaginable!!

CROCHET 101, HOW TO FASTEN OFF AND WEAVE IN, IN CROCHET

When you crochet a project, you will need to know how to finish off.

Learn how to "Fasten off" and "Weave In Yarn Ends" by watching me do it on my youtube channel!
Many people wonder just exactly what it means to "fasten off", but after watching this video, you will know for sure.  As well, if not done right, sometimes the yarn ends will work themselves out and peek through.  With this method shown in the video, there is no change of that happening, as you weave in 3 different directions, which secures the yarn so that it can't wiggle around and loosen up.

CROCHET 101, HOW TO MAKE A DOUBLE CROCHET STITCH

Off we go, you have learned how to chain stitch, and single crochet from my previous posts... now you can make the double crochet.

The double crochet is a tall stitch, and gives you much mileage for little effort.  To make a double crochet stitch, wind the yarn around the hook one time, then insert the hook through the next stitch, and pull the yarn through.
You will then have 3 loops on the hook, so you again pick up the yarn, and pull it through 2 stitches.  You will have 2 stitches remaining, so pick up the yarn, and pull it through 2 loops again.  Voila!  You just made a double crochet stitch.  Would you like to watch it being made?  Check the link below this photo.

HOW TO CROCHET 101, LEARN TO SINGLE CROCHET

So now that you know the first thing about crochet, (making the chain stitch), you can now learn how to single crochet!

CROCHET 101, LEARN HOW TO CROCHET

To begin in crochet, you will need to know how to do the chain stitch.  The chain stitch is involved in everything in crochet.  You cannot begin a crochet project without the chain stitch, it's an absolute necessity.

It's called a chain stitch, because once completed, it really looks just like a chain!  And it's so easy, you could do it with your fingers, and not need a crochet hook at all.  Check it out in the link below, and see exactly how it's done.  Then practise, practise, practise!
